Experience a warm and intimate winter weekend of queer tango in Brooklyn, New York
We are thrilled to present the first edition of Íntimamente: Queer Tango Marathon brought to you by a host of community minded folks from all over the globe!
Íntimamente will take place in the historic neighborhood of Park Slope, Brooklyn at ShapeShifter Lab,, a live music venue that provides opportunities for artists and organizations to freely realize their visions. We are thrilled to collaborate with them on this event for the first time.
Come! Dance, eat, socialize, make friends and participate in playful workshops and discussions with our guest facilitators from Mexico, and Madrid. Enjoy nutritious vegan and vegetarian meals prepared lovingly by our Brooklyn based-Tunisian born chef.
What to expect:
An intimate tango space that centers queer identified dancers regardless of dance level or experience. Allies are welcome at this event, however we have very limited capacity and priority will be given to queer dancers.
There are 2 floors that will be used throughout the marathon. Milongas, meals and refreshments are in the main space on the ground floor. You can purchase alcoholic drinks from a cash bar or specialty coffee from the cafe barista. A filtered water cooler is available on the second floor so bring your water bottles or purchase a limited edition bottle printed with our beautifully designed illustration by Julia Campello of Barcelona.
Discussions and workshops are on the second floor studio space. Outside of scheduled programming, the studio is available for lounging, socializing, getting a massage or checking out the clothing and shoe swap. Bring your lightly used items that are in good condition for swapping.
Vegan and vegetarian meals are included from Friday night to Sunday evening. They are lovingly prepared by chef Nadia Ketoure, who is also a health coach and food activist. Meals will be served buffet style or pre-packed boxes during the meal hours listed in the program. Snacks and refreshments between meals, ie; juices, hot water for tea and drip coffee will also be provided.
As part of a co-operative effort in building community and friendship, we ask that all dancers participate by volunteering on a task for a maximum of 30mins. A simply task may include greeting dancers at the entrance, collecting trash, sweeping floor, organizing the clothing swap corner etc,. For our more seasoned festival and marathon queer dancers, you can volunteer by being a "Guide" to our new comers in queer tango or to New York City.

Intimamente recognizes that Covid-19 continues to represent a safety concern for members of our community. At the time of this writing, infection rates are growing in 7 states, declining in 16 states, and stable or uncertain in 25 states. Our Covid-19 safety policy is designed in accordance with current CDC guidelines:
We strongly encourage everyone who can to please get the most up to date covid booster shot, which is now available (as of early Sept 2024). Even if you are not in a high risk community, you can help protect vulnerable members of our community by keeping up to date on booster shots.
We also encourage participants to rapid test about 24 hours before the first day of our event. While this is not required by our venue, it is a courtesy to our community and part of practicing community care.
If you have to cancel your attendance because of COVID-19, please let the organizers know and we’ll work with you to figure out refund options. We cannot 100% guarantee full refunds but will do everything we can to help you.
If you begin experiencing symptoms or test positive after you have already been present at the marathon, please isolate and let the organizers know so we can assist with contact tracing.
Participants are encouraged to bring a mask - if dancing with a community member who is masking, it’s nice to ask if they would feel more comfortable if you masked as well.
Do not discriminate against anyone choosing to wear a mask. It is not our place to ask why someone is masking, to question the need for a mask, to complain about masks, or to avoid dancing or socializing with those who are masked. Wearing a mask can already feel isolating, so please help do your part as a community member and make sure those wearing masks are still included.
You can read more about the CDC’s guidelines for limiting Covid-19, flu, and RSV spread here: https://www.cdc.gov/covid/prevention/index.html
Refund Policy
We understand that plans can change, however we cannot guarantee refunds if you need to cancel your attendance. Refund requests will be considered on a case by case basis depending on timing and context. If you need to request a refund please do so as early as possible so we can assess and provide a refund if possible.
If you have any questions you can reach us by using the contact tab on the top of this web page or use the question space at the end of the registration form.
